These two prints depict the differences and similarities between old brick walls in Philadelphia and Atlanta. Many times buildings in cities are demolished next to others leaving interesting colors and patterns of when windows and stairs once were. It's like looking at the rings of a tree after cutting it down... somewhat historic.

Ladies of the Baseline

At long last the Ladies of the Baseline are printed and ready for you to take them home!

Each Typewoman is created entirely with type (letters, punctuation, ligatures) in the typeface of their namesake and sit atop a pattern created with the same. No letterform has been skewed, stretched, flipped or any other bastardizing technique — just scaling at rotating. So the letters are pure as the driven snow! Check out this little glimpse of how the letters are laid over eachother:

ABOUT THE PRINTS:
The Typewomen prints are all screen-printed in my fantastic basement. The woman herself is printed with black ink and the Typattern in the background is printed with a clear varnish to provide a subtle accompanying texture. In the above images you can see the how the gloss varnish is visible when the light hits it. It's pretty cool.

As usual, each print is signed and numbered by the artist (Sutter). They fit quite finely in a RIBBA frame from IKEA.

This is the third and final print in the Typographic Letterpress Posters Series. This one is a photopolymer plate of a Typerson I created using only the Emigre typeface Mrs. Eaves. Like the typeface itself, he is a chap with good taste and fine manners. Just don't cross him.

Each print is signed, numbered and suitable for framing. I recommend the Ribba frame from Ikea although a standard 8x10 frame does a good job too. (with a little shaving of the paper)

This is the second print in the Typographic Letterpress Posters Series. Collect them all! All you typographic nerds will be pleased to hang this ode to readability upon your mantle. It's printed with 2 faces of old, unnamed woodtype and a ornamental border (also wood). I pulled a bit of letterpress trickery to get half the word each time I put it through the rollers. Hope you enjoy it!

*SOLD OUT* A whirlwind of punctuation is featured in this new letterpress print by Sutter. (If you're wondering what letterpress is, look here). I took a whole lot of old wood type whose typeface is unknown and essentially kerned it with the smaller point sizes of lead type to get it tight in the lock-up (the bottom picture). It was like a big puzzle that didn't really have a solution. The largest is a 3.25" exclamation mark and the smallest is a 24 pt. period. Dot.

It took me a little while but I have finally gotten these portraits done. This is a series of 4 sort-of-blind-contour drawing prints. That means whenever the pen was moving I wasn't looking but I DID look many times to place the pen down on the page in a new (and better) position. I realized this was the only way I could draw a reasonably good portrait. Anyway, I'm pretty happen with the results. Hope you like them.

Each is a two color print on white 110lb. paper with a rag bottom edge. Of course, they are signed, titled and numbered by me, Sutter. Buy one for $20 (US) or buy all 3 for $55 (US) and save five bucks! Hooray!

Here we have a 1-color letterpress printed word and it's definition. For those of you unfamiliar with letterpress printing, it is an early form of printing relying on individual wood or lead letters put together on a press, inked up with a roller, and printed 1 sheet at a time. The birth of the computer has pretty much crushed this form of printing but I took a class on it and this is the result. I love the texture and impression from the press on the paper but the tedius spelling words and sentences and paragraphs one letter at a time can take it's toll. (Not to mention the clean up.) This poster goes well in any home or office where you need to define what it is you actually DO at work every day. It is set in two nameless woodtype typefaces, 60 pt. Standard, 72 pt. Standard, and 14 pt. Clarendon. The small sentence at the bottom reads "Mr. Smithwik, please cease this boondoggling yirn and return to your skulduggery." Beetle Prints by Niff

I decided to creat a set of Beetle prints that have the feeling of old, turn of the centry drawings, but still have a contemporary flair. Done in Blues and Greens, these Prints were all originally ink and watercolor drawings drawn by Niff. They look amazing in Ikea's square Ribba Frame (ONLY IN STORES) and even more amazing in antique white oval frames.  This set can be purchased together or Separately.

Each screen print is a signed limited edition of 26 prints on dark ivory Arches 140 lb watercolor paper.

The One-Off Extravaganza

What we have here is a ground-breaking collaboration between myself (Sutter) and the talented Mr. Kevin Cornell of the famed Bearskinrug. We each came up with 5 one-off comics that we deemed suitable for printing. Kevin utilized his beloved character and life partner, Mojo the Sock Monkey and I recruited serveral strange yet typical characters to perform vignettes from Picnic Mtn. The result is ten, 2-color, silk-screened prints which will fit into any standard 5x7 frame. So toss that picture of your mother or spouse from your favorite night-table frame and replace it with a spelunking sockmonkey or snowman wearing underpants. They'll understand! All ten prints are signed and numbered by the artists.

Some things to remember:
• Feel free to split up the set and disperse it as you will. Be your own Santa and give away half the prints to your neighbor or local blacksmith and keep the other five for yourself as a snug little set all by itself. They're versatile!
• The neutral colors of the paper allow them to reside happily on just about any color wall you may have.
• They make swell postcards! You may want to put a little sturdier backing on them but just imagine the look on Uncle Benny's face when he gets a card with a Man offering a shark a cigarette. He will shit his pants! Twice!
• Each set comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.

101 characters have been ripped from the pages of Picnic Mtn. comics and thrust together in an unholy amalgamation that resembles the Gates of Hell by Rodin. That said — wouldn't it look marvelous hanging on your wall!?

A note: Due to the thinness of the lines of these fellas, there is something of a fading effect on some of the prints which (i think) adds to the line drawing style of it. Do not fear it!

This is the first print in the monthly print series for 2006. It features a frost-covered tree and some very confused birds who are just now migrating in early February. I guess that's what happens when it's 65 degrees in January.
