Kurt Vonnegut Jr. 1922-2007
Kurt Vonnegut Jr. died at the age of 84 on Wednesday. He was an amazing and inspiring writer and he will be sorely missed. This crudely composed, blind contour tribute doesn't do him justice. (Would it do anyone justice? I don't know.)

Blind Contour SECOND friday- November

Turkeys:

 YES, TURKEYS! I for one, think turkeys are exceptional animals. A blue head and a great red waddle! I really don't know how I manage to eat them....I have actually cut back on eating turkey at Thanksgiving dinner. Not because turkeys are "exceptional" mind you, but because they make me sleepy.

I HATE falling asleep after a 3pm dinner. So, from now on, I am filling up on canned cranberry sauce (gosh I freaking love that stuff!) and lots of mashed potaters.

Turkeys are perhaps the ugliest bird out there. Maybe the ostrich could give them a run for their ugly-money but I have a feeling the turkey would come out on top. Though turkeys surely taste better. I've had an ostrich burger and brother, well, it actually wasn't that bad. Turkey burgers are good too. Turkey burgers and ice cream... good.

Blind Contour ƒirst Friday October!

Some of you would not consider this spooky. I however, would.

This is a Brown Recluse aka: violin spider. I know a lot about bugs, as I am sure you all can guess. I have this spooky compulsion to find out all I can about an insect once I am confronted with it. I grew up in the country on a river in the woods and this is also where all the spiders in the world grew up...or so it seemed. This little guy was a fear I also heard rumor of living under my bed, but I have actually never seen one in person. I have known some people to be less fortunate. Stay away from these spooky guys this October....I don't even want to tell you what could happen!

I wouldn't necessarily call spiders 'spooky' but Niff is afraid of them for all of us. They can be fierce little bastards though. Especially when they're playing their violins on the subway with a tin can tied to their arm that says "Tips."

If you wan't to know what I drew, maybe you should scroll down a little and look at Sutter's drawing. I am not very good at these non-organic shapes when it comes to blind contours, but I think it helps my brain get a good workout. This drawing may not be the best blind contour ever, but I may be smarter because of it! It really is nice to sit down and not worry about what my sketch is going to come out looking like. The best part about doing bc's, is the way it makes me sit still and just concentrate on small details. I now need to take this practice on in my everyday life.

This fan has an "H" with a Blue Marlin for the cross-line. Too bad you can't tell that in this drawing.  I actually don't own this fan, but I really wish I did. My "wind machine" just ain't cutting it in this sweltering heat. I think tomorrow is supposed to be in the 90S though.. so it looks like we are gonna have a nice cool down. I hope everyone else had fun using their blind contour drawing to cool them off! Whoever draws a pool....your in for a visit!

Wow, yeah, I did a lot of work in "post" to get this thing to not look like ass but it didn't work. I can't cover up my shoddy blindness. I probably wouldn't get any change on a subway with a tin cup attached to my arm as i played the violin. Lots of circles makes things hard to draw. Anyway, here it is, a fan that was formerly pretty cool and retro with lots of flourishes and little dolphins leaping reduced to, well, this. This fan doesn't make me feel any cooler. Hip-wise OR temperature-wise.

If you are all wondering why we haven't posted this week much, it's because Sutter's computer decided to stop working...and then eat all of the information on it.

We are going to try and get everything up and running very soon, including some new prints  by Niff, but until them...you must all suffer.

Sutter made me draw this. I wanted to draw the Hindenburg, but he went and picked it without me.   I bet you didn't know that Wilbur Wright had 2 mouths, and Orwille had a gimpy arm. Well, as you can see ...they did. Don't let 2 mouths stop YOU from accomplishing your dreams this summer! Hope ya'll are having a grand old summer time!

The Wright Brothers, Orville and Wilbur, were the first to harness the sky and make it do their bidding. Their bidding, of course, was to ride it. They also felt the strong need to overcome the goofy names Susan Catharine Wright gave them. In the above "photograph", the right side of Wilbur's body seems to have taken flight itself: A testament to the ingenuity and constant invention of these brave young men.

SUSHI!!!! sushi is by far my favorite food. It lights up my mouth and tickles my soul with each bite. Dragon Roll happens to be my most favorite of favorites... it's all in the sweet eel and the soft avocado. Oh dear!

Featured here is the Rittenhouse Roll: A meeting of tuna and avocado with a co-conspirator of cucumber (named after the park it resides next to). I still think Niff cooked up this theme as an excuse to get sushi for dinner. Highly suspect.

Good morning! No, we don't eat raw eggs and un-cooked quick grits for breakfast, we just thought that they were much more interesting to look at in an "un-cooked" state.

BTW: I used to not like grits when I was a kid. I tried putting all kinds of crap in them, but I still couldn't find something that worked. UNTIL ... I tried just butter and a bit O' sugar. Let me tell y a folks, that is one delicious combination!

Somewhere in that mess of lines there are 11 eggs and half a thing of grits. Niff is the grits eater. I merely tolerate them. Egg cartons are hard to draw because they are so amorphous. There are no hard corners to draw - just mushy, recycled paper curves and blots. Incidently, I think breakfast is my favorite meal even though I don't get to eat a very good one very often.

WELL, what the heck did we do? by the time we were ready to draw outside out window it was pretty dark, so one good thing about living in Center City Philly, is there are still ample amounts of lighting. If you think real hard, you can see that I drew outside the 2nd story apartment, down onto 20th street up to Walnut. There is a parking lot up the street and if I had more room I would have tried to fit the Philly skyline in... Oh, and the bottom left corner is my window box with some left-overs from last years herbs growing in there..and a few pencils I had stuck into the dirt to keep my parsley (no longer with us) from falling over. Thanks everyone, .

I didn't get quite as much of our street in here as Niff did. I was getting tired of sqionting in to the darkness to make out vague lines on the sides of buildings. I did get the important things in there though like the Suncapsule Salon, my favorite place to do salon things.
