Ahhhh...feels SO good to be back to drawing with ink again. I am going to start experimenting with ink washes now, rather than pure line. This is a study of nuts. Can you guess which are my favorite?
I actually like the top right ( almonds) best...drawing wise...and pistachios the best...eat wise. I hate walnuts all around! I'm surprised that everyone likes the drawing of the brazil nuts ( middle left) I think it looks kinda messy.
niff,
your legume question can be thoroughly answered by one matt sutter. he knows alllllll about 'em. he even knows that they prefer relaxing in the accomodating comfort of hanes briefs.
I figured it had something to do with that darn bean!I wasn't pos. if he wore briefs though...I know he has some sweet horse parts though..
so i'm guessing a lugume is a bean..not a nut?
Hey, Murk--thanks for the comment. Your silly question is easily answered. It's just an ink wash.
I may do an evolution of my drawing scans one day, but for now I'm still experimenting. See, I don't usually sketch out my sketches before I ink them...I just start inking. So, there isn't much "evolution." When I start my next painting I will try to put up my work process.
Thanks for that, incredibly helpful. It's always difficult admitting ignorance in order to learn, and I think myself lucky to have such helpful advice.
you're just asking for it...

That's obvious. You like pecans.
We all do.

hee hee! PEACANS! Everyone knows those are YOUR favorite Ian. I didn't even draw pecans...

Blech; pecans taste like ash.
Cashews are teh win - from this drawing, I'd guess Brazil nuts.

I don't really know anything about nuts - but they all look great! I'd have to say the ones left-middle are my favorite.

I'm trying to teach myself to sketch... evidence on my site.
Potentially silly question: What are you doing to get those big areas of dark ink?
Idea for the future.... I'd love to see an set of scans showing the evolution of a piece.

What about the part where you do all that stuff with the tracing paper and the Martha Stewart Living?
Posted by: Ian | January 27, 2005 at 05:00 PM
No ian, thats YOU! you and your obsession with martha..sad actually.
Posted by: niff | January 27, 2005 at 05:30 PM
Okay.... so, how does one do an ink wash?
Is it simply 'mix ink with water and go?'
Posted by: Murk | January 27, 2005 at 06:58 PM
Actually, you can use regular ink. But you need special water. From the Himalayas. Good luck. There's only so much left on Earth.

RJ,
Thanks for that, incredibly helpful. It's always difficult admitting ignorance in order to learn, and I think myself lucky to have such helpful advice.
I shall seek some Himalayan water immediately.

I don't know about you, but I like the pistachios because they are so simple. I also like the walnuts: shells not nuts.
